Tap vs. Mainstreet (playoff game)
MTR was thirsty for the rematch as they faced
Mainstreet in the playoffs. Mainstreet
opened with the 1st goal.
Steve Vaughan drew the defenseman and the goalie way off the net then
dropped the puck back to the slot for an easy open net for Steve Haines. Jim MacDonald tallied the next 2 goals with
the 2nd one proving to be the game winner. The MTR boys were up 3-2 in the 3rd with about 3
minutes left, when Brent Finner crashed through the defense and delivered the
“back breaker” goal to go up 4-2. With
30 seconds left, Steve Haines got the puck past the point and shot in the open
net to end the game 5-2. Onward to the
championship!

Tap vs. Westside
MTR rolled over the Westside express with a
4-0 victory Tuesday late in the evening.
With Mark Evens’ goalie title on the line, the MTR boys put it together
with solid play the entire game. Jim
MacDonald and Brent Finner lit it up, each firing in a pair of goals. Although goalie, Mark Evans did not see much
action, what he did face, he proved to be up to the task. Great finish to the regular season.

Tap vs. Mainstreet
MTR ran out of gas against a persistent
Mainstreet team. Jim MacDonald opened
the scoring to put MTR on the boards.
Brent Finner quickly followed with a fast break shot in the upper
net. Steve Haines added the last goal
with a pass from behind the net from Jim MacDonald. After that things went down hill. Rich St.Denis was cut by Tom Deephouse. This resulted in a very odd call of Tom getting a 5-minute major
with Rich with a 2-minute minor. The
refs insisted that no power play should be awarded even though Tom was in the
box for 5 minutes. All of this took
about 5 minutes of ice time to determine.
Mainstreet came back with a 4-3 win in the 3rd.

fast paced gritty game. Steve Haines

in what proved to be the game winner.
Jim MacDonald then widened the gap with another to put MTR up 3-0. Late in the 3rd, Tom Winegar scored

it up with a 3 goal “natural” hat trick (Who’s da man!). Steve Bethune then capped off the evening
with one more.

Tap vs. Howell’s/Racquets
MTR’s 4 game unbeaten streak came to an end
as they were unable to score even a single goal against Howell’s/Racquets. MTR had ample chances, bounces, and rebounds
but in the end, Scott Christmas prevailed (tis’ the season). The game had some unusual calls – bad boy of
the league, Dave D’Alcorn sat twice with two minor penalties. The pace of the game slowed to a crawl in
the 3rd as confusion arose as to who was in the penalty box. Feeling left out, Bernie Wade then inflicted
his point of view and landed himself in the sin bin. Once things were straitened out, Dean had fallen asleep at the
game clock switch – quickly woken by Racquet’s whining. Missing from MTR’s lineup was Jim MacDonald
and Steve Bethune – must have been center’s night off.

Tap vs. Screen Ideas
MTR won decisively over Screen Ideas in a
hard fought battle. Brent Finner opened
the scoring zipping by the flat-footed defense and skillfully maneuvering the
goalie out of position. SI answered
back to put the game at 1-1. Steve
Vaughan then banged in a close-range rebound to put MTR back to a lead they
would net relinquish the remainder of the evening. Steve Haines managed two more goals in one shift – one chip shot
to the upper net and one rebound off a Steve Vaughan shot to the net. Trace Adams finished the evening with a
deflected blast from the blue line late in the 3rd.

Tap vs. Tan-n-Tone
MTR squeaked the “W” on Tuesday with a 2-1
win over Tan-n-Tone. Ken Sipe opened
the evening with a close-range wrist shot past goalie Bob Graham. TNT came back late in the 2nd to
tie the game. The game looked like it
was going to end with a tie until less than 2 minutes in the game. Tracy Adams fired a shot from inside the
blue line that deflected off Steve Haines’ pads into the net for the game
winner. MTR wins a close one in what
was anticipated to be a much easier win.

Tap vs. Westside
MTR was part of an ugly penalty riddled game
on Tuesday as they managed a win over Lakeshore/Antonio’s. From the start, it looked as though it would
be an easy victory over L/A, who was short handed with only 7 skaters. Steve Vaughan opened the scoring, with
another quick goal following by Mack Cybulski.
L/A came back with a goal after that.
Brent Finner, the star of the evening, managed a 3-goal hat trick in
what looked like the same shot each time.
L/A managed to come within 1 goal.
The L/A team was quite agitated throughout the game, led by Mike
Kuharevicz, who ended up with a 10-minute misconduct for most of the 3rd
period. At one point, MTR’s penalty box
was quite crowded with Steve Haines, Steve Vaughan, and Larry Finner.

and company as they skated to a 6-2 loss.
Westside got on the board first, but MTR came back with a goal from
Steve Vaughan for the tie. Westside
then notched another and was matched with another goal from Brent Finner. That was it for MTR as Tony F. ended up with
4 goals on the evening. MTR will face
Lakeshore/Antonio’s next week to see if they can get back to their winning
ways.

MTR had no magic as they were only able to
tally one goal against Mainstreet. Mainstreet
started with three unanswered goals before MTR could get out of the starting

Mainstreet has a much improved team this season via the draft. MTR will get another crack at them later in

Tap vs. Time Out Lounge
In another classic Tuesday night tangle, MTR
earned a hard fought 3-2 victory over Time Out Lounge. Brent Finner escaped with the puck along the
boards, skated up the off wing, fired on net hitting the 'keeper in the arm
with the puck managing to somehow find its way to the back of the net. A short while later, Steve Vaughan took
advantage of a muffed Scott Lautenschlager clearing attempt, scooped up the
puck, curled behind the net . . . waited . . . waited . . . waited . . . waited
. . . and finally shoveled a backhander just inside the far post. Steve Bethune capped the scoring and the
victory streaking up the left side and dusting off the top shelf. With the goalie pulled, Time Out's hopes for
a tie game were kept alive by Steve Vaughan and then by Jeff VanStratt as each
man Buffalo
Bill-ed their scoring attempts sending their
shots just wide.

Tap vs. Lakeshore/Antonio’s
The MTR boys were back in form with a solid
win over Lakeshore. Leading the way
with a natural hat trick was Steve Bethune.
In a pre-game interview Steve was touting the new stick handle wrapping
technique that was sure to lead to a successful season. Mark Evans delivered a stellar performance
in blanking Lakeshore with an opening game shutout. To cap it off, Mark also notched the one point assist to put him
on the boards in scoring, leading all of the Time Out players including
defending scoring champion John Winegar.
Rich St.Denis put the nail in the coffin with the final goal with 4
seconds left in the game. The MTR boys
are off an running with the big “W”.
